Question by Alex: How can I tell what my coin is worth over the internet?
I have a one dollar coin from 1890 with a picture of a queen on the heads side with a crown that says "Liberty" on it, and a bald eagle with arrows and what i am assuming as an olive branch in its claws on the tails side. If you know the coin or its worth, or a free website that can determine it's worth, it'd help. Thanks.

Question by Mr. So Krates: Which is a better coin for collecting?
Which would you rather have? This is a gift for my mother who loves coin collecting.

A 2008 bald eagle silver dollar proof: Only ~, but only 500,000 are to be produced

A 2008 American buffalo proof coin: ~0 but no statement of limiting the production

Both are official U.S. coins from the U.S. mint.

The 2008 bald eagle coin is a commemorative coin while the 2008 American Buffalo coin is a gold bullion coin and for 0 it must be the 1/10 of an ounce. You may find that the gold buffalo will have the lowest mintage. Looking at the American gold eagle proof issues of 1/10 oz. only 17,546 2005 proofs were made and 15,636 2004 proofs were made. The most proofs made from what books I have is 143,681 from the first year 1988. Not all mintage figures for 2006-2007 have been released yet. I am a numismatist and collect the old historic coins, so would have to take the Bald Eagle for it's historic value but the gold coin would be the best investment.

Look it up on ebay, It will probably tell you a little about it and how much its worth.

Does it look like this (see link below)?

Is it a nickel, a silver dollar, or a gold coin??? That will make quite a difference in the value.

Question by Slick: What would this coin be worth?
It is from 1945. On one side it has a coat of arms with the Bald Eagle on top, and on this side says 'United States of America". the date 1945, is also found on this side.

Then, on the opposite side, it says "fifty centavos" at the top. At the bottom on this side, it says "FILIPINAS".
Pictured on this side is a man/woman wearing a robe standing next to a bird bath/water stand filling a ladle.

What would be an estimate on this coins value, and where is it from? The condition is fair to good.

it is a post-war Phillipines coin.

I would contact Littleton Coin for a value.

I personally would want the Gold Buffalo simply because I have numerous Silver Eagles already... BUT if your mother is a small time collector or beginner, she will be more than happy with the Silver Eagle .

Why not get her the Silver Eagle now and start saving for the Gold Buffalo for a gift NEXT year ! It's a win win situation for both of you. If you are financially stable and money is NOT the object then get one now and the next for her at the next gift giving holiday of your choice.

Either way she will love what you give her... I know I enjoy ANYTHING my son gives me, even if it is a coin I already have. I gladly accept duplicates of any part of my collection. : )

Be sure to include a hug !!

Question by jrddecker: GreenPeace Coins? Anybody know anything about them?
I have a set of Five GreenPeace coins. They are in a green holder the says greenpeace on the cover. Come with a little booklet about the animals featured on the coins. The coins them self are in execellent condition. About the size and weight on a silver dollar. Silver in color, I don't know if they are real silver or plated? They all have the GreenPeace symbol with the peace sign on one side. And the of side show a different animal or design on the other. A Bald Eagle, Harp Seals, Timber Wolves, Sperm Whales, and a Sisiutl. They say "GreenPeace 1979" on the top and on the bottom it says, "Currency Value One Dollar Expires April 30, 1979" I can't find anything about these. I have had them for years. I checked on ebay the see it anyone had tried to auction any off, and no one has in the last six months. I get nothing off of google. Anyone know where I can find info on these?

I will not be much help but they are actually medals. They fall into the category of local trade dollars. There are more Canada than here in the states but when a city or town has a special event say a 100th anniversary they produce trade coins that are good for a certain amount for a specific time. Greenpeace was big in the 1970-1980's for pulling stunts that got them in trouble with the powers to be. I am not surprised such an item exists. they would have used the money from sales to help their cause. I don't have their web site handy but google the token and medal society maybe they can help. I would say the medals are usually made of copper-nickel to look like silver. You can also google token and medal dealers , one of them may know. Hope this helps.
